In 2003, Theresa and Pepi started a traditional business, a private practice as Licensed Creative Arts Therapists with a specialty in dance/movement therapy serving children and families affected by Autism and related disabilities. Pepi maintained her full-time job as an administrator at a local ARC for adults with intellectual disabilities. Theresa continued her post graduate training as an RDI Consultant, Relationship Development Intervention, a Parent Coaching program for families with autism. To say the least they were working hard to get their practice off the ground, doing everything from seeing clients, administrative duties, down to cleaning the offices and taking out the trash. In 2005, the “what if’s” started to creep into their conversations about how they were trading their hours for dollars and there never seemed to be enough hours in a day to make a real difference. When they opened the private practice they thought they had ARRIVED! But 2 years later realized that self-employment was not the key to financial freedom! This is when they began their search for an additional stream of income that could provide an alternative income should something happen to one of them or the economy. They must have been clairvoyant. Although, Theresa states, “Why we would have chosen Network Marketing business is beyond us, my father was in two different Network Marketing companies in the 70’s and lost his shirt in both. I remember a basement full of products, where I would go and play with the make up that my father was trying to sell.”
Initially, they were introduced to a company that ultimately did not have sound integrity. While marketing that company online to some coaches, Theresa was introduced to Team Northrup, a venture started by Dr. Christiane Northrup, author of Women's Bodies Women's Wisdom, The Wisdom of Menopause among others. What transpired over the next 48 hours is what Theresa believes was a blessing from her late father.
Theresa and Pepi joined Team Northrup and USANA Health Sciences in January of 2005. They had been steadily building their USANA business when in the Spring of 2008, their private practice was hit hard by the rising cost of gas and food. “Parents were calling canceling sessions saying, I can’t afford to drive to you and pay you, I need to feed my family.” That summer required some creative banking and cutting back on everything. But what happened was just short of amazing, as their income from their private practice tanked, their USANA income began to rise, almost in direct proportion to each other. After the 2008 convention, their business grew steadily and exponentially and they entered into the Growth 100. Today they are living proof that this business is real, with real income and fabulous products. On June 15th 2009, they had to call their accountant to say they had already made to date the income they made last year in order to reevaluate their quarterly taxes. The new payment was 5 times their current estimate. Their accountant said, “Well I’m not getting many calls like this these days”
